The Finnish Ice Hockey Association, in collaboration with the NHL and the NHL Players' Association, has announced its leadership group for the upcoming 4 Nations Face-Off. Carolina Hurricanes forwards Sebastian Aho and Mikko Rantanen have been appointed as assistant captains.
Sebastian Aho, aged 27, will be representing Finland on the international stage for the first time since the 2017-18 season. During that season, he impressed at both the World Cup of Hockey and IIHF World Championship, accumulating a total of 37 points across 17 games. This season, Aho has maintained his performance level with 51 points in 51 games for Carolina.
Mikko Rantanen, aged 28, also participated in the same 2017-18 World Cup of Hockey alongside Aho and scored 11 points in eight games. He recently represented Finland at the 2023 IIHF World Championship, contributing nine assists over eight games. As of January 24th, Rantanen is tied for sixth place among all NHL skaters with a total of 66 points.
Joining them is San Jose Sharks forward Mikael Granlund. The trio will support Florida Panthers star Aleksander Barkov, who has been named captain.
These players are set to compete for Team Finland once again at the Face-Off on February 12th.
