NC State women's basketball team faced a challenging match against the top-ranked South Carolina at the Ally Tipoff in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game, held at the Spectrum Center, concluded with NC State falling to South Carolina 71-57.
Despite trailing by as many as 20 points late in the third quarter, NC State managed to reduce the deficit to seven points with just over four minutes remaining. However, South Carolina secured their victory with a closing 7-2 run.
NC State's shooting performance included a 41.5 percent success rate from the field and 40 percent from beyond the arc, converting six out of fifteen attempts. Zamareya Jones led her team with 16 points, including four three-pointers.
The game began evenly matched, with both teams tied at 10-10 during the first quarter's media timeout. South Carolina ended the first quarter leading 17-14. In the second quarter, Aziaha James sparked an 11-0 run for NC State after making two free throws and scoring off a turnover. However, South Carolina responded with an 11-1 run while NC State experienced a five-minute scoring drought. By halftime, NC State trailed by nine points.
South Carolina maintained their momentum into the second half, starting with a three-pointer that was quickly countered by Zoe Brooks' consecutive layups. Despite efforts from NC State to close the gap, they were unable to overcome South Carolina's lead and entered the final quarter down by fifteen points.
In the fourth quarter, Jones' performance brought NC State within seven points after hitting her fourth three-pointer and following up with a layup off turnovers. Nonetheless, South Carolina concluded the game on a strong note to secure their win.
Jones was notable for her contribution of 16 points in just 28 minutes off the bench. James added another 13 points along with three assists and steals each. Brooks continued her consistent performance by scoring double digits for her second consecutive game.
