The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 2-1 victory against the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday, marking their first road win in five games. The team scored twice within the first 21 minutes and maintained their lead to clinch the win.

Jordan Martinook opened the scoring for the Hurricanes at 18:59 of the first period, assisted by Jalen Chatfield's forechecking. Jordan Staal increased the lead shortly after, taking advantage of a misplay by Detroit's Alex Lyon to score from behind the net.

Despite earning a penalty shot in the third period, Taylor Hall was unable to convert it into a goal. The Red Wings managed to score once in the final frame, but Frederik Andersen's performance in goal helped secure Carolina's victory with 24 saves on 25 shots.

Shayne Gostisbehere contributed an assist on Staal's goal, marking his 27th assist of the season. Jesperi Kotkaniemi excelled in faceoffs, winning seven out of eight attempts.

Carolina's head coach Rod Brind'Amour praised his team's consistent effort throughout all three periods. "I loved it. I thought all three periods there was no letdown," he said. He also noted improvements in their play away from the puck and expressed hope for better finishing on scoring chances.

Jordan Martinook highlighted the cohesive play among all lines and praised his defensemen for their performance. "Every line was playing how we needed to play," he stated.

Brind'Amour also reflected positively on the Mentors' Trip, emphasizing its value for both players and their families: "It's always great...to see the dads and how proud they are of their kids."

The Hurricanes will practice Wednesday before facing Boston at home on Thursday, ahead of the 2025 Trade Deadline.
