On June 16, Congresswoman Deborah Ross (NC-02), member of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic, released the following statement on President Biden announcing his intent to appoint Dr. Mandy Cohen as Director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“I would like to extend my sincere congratulations to Dr. Cohen on her selection to lead the CDC,” said Congresswoman Ross. ”Dr. Cohen skillfully guided North Carolina through the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic as the Secretary of the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. We were lucky to have her expertise and unfailing commitment to public health. I’m confident that she will serve as an effective and successful director of the CDC, and I know she will have a tremendous positive impact on the lives and health of millions of Americans. North Carolina is fortunate to call Dr. Cohen one of our own, and I applaud President Biden for making this choice.”
Earlier this week, current CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky testified before the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic. Congresswoman Ross’ remarks from that hearing are available here.
