Wake County was named to the Healthiest Employers Hall of Fame for 2023 by Springbuk, a health and data analytics company monitoring health and wellness trends across the country. The awards honor people-first organizations that prioritize the well-being of their employee population.

“The health and well-being of our employees is so critical and I’m proud Wake County is being recognized as a leading employer in this area,” said Chair Shinica Thomas of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “We have to engage the hearts, minds and bodies of our staff to really address and affect well-being. That means not just having an on-site employee health center or wellness days, it means addressing workplace culture and improving diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Award applicants were evaluated across six key categories: Culture and Leadership, Foundational Components, Strategic Planning, Communication and Marketing, Programming and Interventions, and Reporting and Analytics. The program assesses employers in more than 45 regions across the country and those selected earn national recognition as one of the Healthiest 100 Workplaces in America.

Wake County was recognized for its continued commitment to workplace wellness and exceptional health and benefit offerings. Specifically, 91% of employees and spouses are actively engaged in at least two or more wellness programs. Wake County knows that investing in employee wellness offers returns beyond improved physical health.

“Wake County constantly reviews leave and benefit offerings to ensure that we are providing the most competitive and comprehensive benefits package for employees,” said Wake County Chief Human Resources Officer Angela Crawford. “Earlier this year we implemented two days of mental health leave to support employees’ emotional and physical well-being.”

Each member of the Hall of Fame has been recognized on a national level numerous times since the award’s inception. Wake County ranked among the 100 Healthiest Employers in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2021 and 2022.
