Late last week, a judge denied Live Nation's motion to dismiss an antitrust case initiated by Attorney General Jeff Jackson, along with 39 other Attorneys General and the U.S. Department of Justice. This decision marks a significant development in the case aimed at holding Live Nation accountable.
"Live Nation operates as an unlawful monopoly, which means that North Carolina consumers suffer when purchasing tickets through their business," stated Attorney General Jeff Jackson. "The court was right to deny Live Nation’s attempts to avoid legal accountability and we’ll continue fighting for lawful ticketing and a healthy live show industry."
The lawsuit, filed in 2024 by several states and the federal government, accuses Live Nation of establishing an illegal monopoly within the live entertainment sector. The company owns Ticketmaster, which is central to these allegations.
In his ruling against Live Nation's motion to dismiss, the judge concluded that the plaintiffs sufficiently demonstrated that Live Nation had overcharged consumers due to its monopolistic control over ticketing services. The complaint specifically targets Live Nation's practices.
The legal action seeks to halt Live Nation's anticompetitive behavior and demands that the company divest from Ticketmaster.
