Today, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for Johnson & Johnson's new biomanufacturing facility in Wilson, North Carolina. Governor Josh Stein was present alongside business leaders and elected officials to mark the occasion. During the event, Governor Stein emphasized the facility's significance to the state's economy and presented an official state flag to Johnson & Johnson.
Governor Stein stated, “Biotechnology is one of our state’s largest and fastest growing economic sectors.” He added, “North Carolina has a strong infrastructure to support the life science industry, and I am pleased that Johnson & Johnson chose Wilson as the site of its new facility. I look forward to partnering with the Johnson & Johnson team to expand economic opportunity and high-quality jobs to every corner of our state.”
Jennifer Taubert, Executive Vice President and Worldwide Chairman of Innovative Medicine at Johnson & Johnson, expressed satisfaction with their investment in North Carolina. She said, “We are pleased to make this significant investment in our manufacturing network in the United States. This state-of-the-art biologics facility in North Carolina will help Johnson & Johnson to accelerate the delivery of our portfolio and pipeline of transformational medicines for patients.” Taubert highlighted that this $2 billion investment would create over 5,000 high-wage manufacturing and construction jobs while supporting local educational initiatives.
Governor Stein reaffirmed his commitment to fostering innovation and maintaining North Carolina's status as a leading business state by bringing well-paying jobs to its residents. The state hosts more than 830 life science companies providing over 225,000 jobs. The new facility by Johnson & Johnson is expected to generate 420 jobs with salaries significantly higher than the average in Wilson County. Since taking office, Governor Stein has seen North Carolina gain over 1,500 new jobs.
