Governor Stein proposes comprehensive budget focusing on family support and economic growth

Governor Stein has unveiled his recommended budget for 2025-2027, emphasizing investments in North Carolina's economy, families, education, workforce, health care, and public safety. Various officials and experts have shared their views on the budget's key components.

Alexandra Sirota from the NC Budget and Tax Center commented on the budget's focus on working families: "The Governor's proposal makes sure working families keep more of what they earn and can keep up with rising costs for the basics like groceries, gas, and rent." The North Carolina Partnership for Children expressed satisfaction with increased investments in child care programs and tax credits for working families.

The Carolina Hunger Initiative highlighted the importance of nutrition programs included in the budget: “The nutrition programs prioritized by Governor Josh Stein in his recommended budget would have significant, positive impacts on the health of North Carolina families.” The NC Early Childhood Foundation praised the ambitious nature of the budget that prioritizes children and working families.

In terms of workforce development, MyFutureNC noted alignment with its policy priorities to help North Carolina remain economically competitive. Surry-Yadkin Works supported initiatives that provide work-based learning opportunities for students.

Education improvements are a significant part of the proposal. State Superintendent Mo Green applauded plans to raise teacher salaries: “I applaud Governor Stein’s transformative education budget proposal that invests in our most precious resource – our children.” Both Eric Davis and Mo Green emphasized alignment with educational priorities.

Abby Emanuelson from NC School Meals for All appreciated funding allocated to ensure free school meals: “We are grateful to Governor Stein for making school meals a priority in his recommended budget.”

On public safety and health measures, various organizations acknowledged investments in infrastructure and community support. The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality mentioned efforts to safeguard natural resources. The Arc of NC expressed gratitude for funding aimed at supporting individuals with developmental disabilities.
