NC State men's golfer Nick Mathews has been recognized as an honorable mention in the 2024 Division I PING All-American selections, as announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America. The announcement was made on Wednesday.
Throughout the season, Mathews participated in 12 collegiate tournaments and secured a spot in the top-25 for ten of those events. His performances included four top-10 finishes and three within the top-five.
A native of Mebane, North Carolina, Mathews recently achieved a tie for 15th place out of 150 golfers at the NCAA DI National Championship. This placement marks the best finish for an NC State golfer at this tournament since Matt Hill's individual title win at the NCAA Championships in 2009.
Mathews earned his place in the NCAA Championship after tying for second at the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional. His score of 12-under par matched Benjamin Shipp's (2018) record for the lowest 54-hole score in an NCAA Regional in NC State program history. The score also stands as Mathews' personal best over 54 holes.
Competing at Finley Golf Club, a par-70 course, Mathews achieved a total score of 198. This feat is only the second instance where an NC State golfer scored under 200 across three rounds.
Over the season, Mathews led NC State with a stroke average of 71.81 and completed half of his rounds—18 out of 36—at even or below par.
