RALEIGH, NC. - A year can make a significant difference.

Reflecting on his previous season, Seth Jarvis appeared dejected, stating, "I know I can bring a lot more to the table." He outlined objectives for himself, including bulking up in the offseason and increasing his goal-scoring output.

Jarvis achieved these goals. Adding nine pounds of muscle before returning to Raleigh, he nearly doubled his 2022-23 season production from 39 points to 67. Exceeding his own hopes of reaching the 20-goal mark for the first time, he finished with 33 goals.

His responsibilities also increased in crucial situations. Two seasons ago, Jarvis played a total of just 12:49 on the penalty kill. This past year, he logged 165:15 minutes on the penalty kill, trailing only Jordan Staal among forwards. In faceoffs, he jumped from taking just 26 to 352.

"I wasn't happy with how last year went, so I used that as motivation to come back stronger," Jarvis said about his offseason work.

Jarvis ranked close to the top of the league in several metrics this season. With a shooting percentage of 18.5%, he landed in the 98th percentile among all forwards and recorded 192 bursts between 20 and 22 mph, placing him in the 95th percentile.

"I was proud with the bounce-back [season]... Being able to capitalize more [was nice]," Jarvis reviewed his performance. "It felt more natural again to score."

Notably, Jarvis played approximately 75 games with a torn labrum and rotator cuff. Wearing a Sully brace under his shoulder pads for most of the season, he continued evolving despite these injuries.

"It's almost like having that little injury in the back of my mind freed me up a little bit," Jarvis remarked. "I think it made me play a little more fearless knowing that I could play through that kind of pain and still have success."

Head coach Rod Brind'Amour praised Jarvis' contributions under challenging circumstances: "He had a good year... What I like about Seth is that he's getting better... There's still another level for him to get to."

Jarvis agreed there is room for improvement: "I think there's a lot of levels to reach... There are so many things in my game that I want to improve and need to improve."

Citing defense as an area for growth, Jarvis' comments came after finishing eighth in Selke Trophy voting.

President & General Manager Don Waddell lauded Jarvis: "You just can't say enough about this guy... He's got big kahunas... He's a guy that you want to continue to build your team around."

With Jarvis needing a new contract this offseason, AFP Analytics suggested two scenarios:

3 years x $6.3M AAV

7 years x $7.8M AAV

"That's something we're going to have to figure out," Jarvis commented on his contract situation. "Hopefully be a Caniac next year."
