Governor Josh Stein marked his 100th day in office in western North Carolina, where he initially began his term. During his visit, considerable focus was placed on recovery efforts in the region, with updates provided to the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners.

Governor Stein aimed to underscore the state's commitment to the recovery process. "We’ve spent the first 100 days fighting for the people of western North Carolina, and we will not stop now," said Stein. He expressed gratitude for the progress made and urged a continuous focus on rebuilding. "I am grateful for all the progress we have made to help western North Carolina rebuild and for our partners who are working to support their communities each and every day. We cannot forget western North Carolina.”

An ongoing dialogue with the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners highlighted recovery milestones and emphasized areas needing further assistance. Governor Stein acknowledged the General Assembly for approving $524 million in relief funding and called for home repair, small business grants, fire prevention, and local government support to be prioritized in upcoming funding discussions.

The governor also participated in a groundbreaking event alongside country artist Eric Church for an affordable housing project in Newland, initiated by Church's nonprofit, Chief Cares. Governor Stein noted the significant role of new housing in recovery efforts and celebrated a $120 million designation for home repair in the Disaster Recovery Act of 2025. He also pointed out North Carolina's prompt action plan submission for a $1.4 billion grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, marking it the fastest submission by a state for a major hurricane in over a decade.

Governor Stein remains dedicated to collaborating with local, state, and federal entities, as well as private and nonprofit partners, to foster recovery and resilience across western North Carolina.
