Governor Josh Stein has appointed William "Bill" Jones to the District Court for Judicial District 43. This district serves Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon, and Swain Counties. The appointment fills the vacancy left by Judge Roy Wijewickrama's move to the Superior Court in November 2024.

Governor Stein commented on the appointment: “Bill brings decades of experience as a solo practitioner and Assistant District Attorney, giving him the record to succeed in this role.” He added that Jones is well-suited for the position due to his long-term residency in Judicial District 43.

Jones has been a solo practitioner for over twenty years, focusing on domestic and criminal law. His previous experience includes serving as an Assistant District Attorney for the 30th Judicial District from 1998 to 2003. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Western Carolina University and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Law.
