A Durham man has been charged with attempting to provide material support to ISIS, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley Jr. Alexander Justin White, 29, was apprehended on December 4, 2024, as he prepared to board a flight from RDU Airport to Morocco. The complaint alleges that White intended to join the terrorist organization overseas and could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
The complaint details White's alleged online activities between May and October of 2024 under the alias “Sulaiman Al-Amriki.” These activities reportedly included posting content supporting ISIS and violent jihad, sharing recruitment videos, and making financial transactions linked to refugee camps suspected of funding ISIS members.
“We work closely with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Task Force to shut down suspected terrorist activities in the United States,” stated U.S. Attorney Michael F. Easley Jr., emphasizing collaboration with local partners.
Robert M. DeWitt, Special Agent in Charge of the FBI in North Carolina, highlighted the role of Joint Terrorism Task Forces (JTTFs) across the country: “In many ways, our JTTFs are our nation’s first line of defense against terrorism.”
The investigation into White is being conducted by the FBI’s Raleigh-based JTTF which includes multiple local law enforcement agencies such as police departments from Cary, Raleigh, and Durham; Wake County Sheriff’s Office; N.C. State Bureau of Investigation; N.C. State Highway Patrol; and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service.
Assistance from Morocco's General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST) was also crucial in this case.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Gabe Diaz and Jason Kellhofer are prosecuting alongside Trial Attorney David Andrew Sigler from the Department of Justice’s Counterterrorism Section.

It should be noted that a criminal complaint is merely an accusation and White is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
