Judge Jefferson Griffin has submitted a brief to the North Carolina Supreme Court, seeking a resolution to ongoing legal disputes. The submission addresses concerns about voting practices in the state.
Griffin's filing comes amid heightened rhetoric from Democrats regarding protests related to these issues. According to Griffin, "the facts have not changed" despite actions by outside groups that he describes as ignoring the rule of law.
The brief challenges decisions by the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE), accusing it of allowing individuals who have never resided in the United States or North Carolina to participate in state elections. This practice, Griffin argues, contravenes the North Carolina Constitution.
Additionally, Griffin highlights that before December 2023, the NCSBE recognized problems with incomplete voter registration forms but did not take corrective action, allegedly violating state law.
NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons supports Griffin's stance, stating: "Judge Griffin's protests highlight clear, specific violations of state law and must be addressed by the NC Supreme Court. The merits of this case are clear and the failures of the N.C. State Board of Elections must finally be corrected."
The outcome now rests with North Carolina's highest court as it reviews these allegations and considers potential implications for election processes within the state.
