Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, has announced that defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere has been activated from injured reserve. Gostisbehere, who is 31 years old, had been sidelined due to an upper body injury for the past eight games. This season, he has accumulated 27 points in 35 games with the team.
Last season, while playing for the Detroit Red Wings, Gostisbehere recorded 56 points over 81 NHL games. Throughout his career in the NHL, he has achieved a total of 394 points in 654 games with teams including Arizona, Philadelphia, Carolina and Detroit.
During his rookie year with the Philadelphia Flyers in the 2015-16 season, Gostisbehere was named to the NHL All-Rookie Team and was a finalist for the Calder Trophy. His college hockey career included three seasons at Union College where he won a National Championship in 2014.
The Pembroke Pines native also represented the United States at international competitions such as the IIHF World Junior Championship and skated for Team North America at the World Cup of Hockey. He was drafted by Philadelphia as their third-round pick in 2012.
