Wolfpack opens track season strong across multiple events

NC State's track and field teams concluded the opening weekend of their 2025 season with competitions at two events: the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener in Boston and the Winston-Salem College Kick-Off in Winston-Salem, N.C.

In Boston, Angelina Napoleon completed the 3,000 meters with a time of 9:07.71. In the 5,000 meters, Grace Hartman finished in 15th place at 15:32.04. Her teammates Hannah Gapes and Brooke Rauber finished in 29th and 50th places with times of 15:47.35 and 16:04.43 respectively.

For the men's events, Ryan Motondo participated in the distance races, finishing 89th in the 3,000 meters at a time of 8:21.54. Brett Gardner achieved a time of 13:36.54 to secure a position at number thirty in the men's 5,000 meters.

Meanwhile, at Winston-Salem College Kick-Off, freshman Olivia Vaughan had a notable start by placing sixth in the women's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.15 seconds and competing in long jump where she ranked twentieth with a leap of 4.96 meters.

Jakerra Covington also ran the women's hurdles event finishing thirteenth clocking a time of nine-point-three-nine seconds; additionally reaching four-point-five-four meters on her long jump attempt; seventeenth position came via shot put achieving ten-point-nine-seven meter throw.

Ta'Honny Exum excelled within shot-put competition reaching third place result throwing fourteen-meters even whereas Makala Wright claimed victory marking eighteen-point-five-six meter best attempt weight throw category followed closely behind teammate Sydney Freeman's eighteen-point-two-eight meter second placement finish; Natalie Griffith making debut hit fifteen-seventy-four mark tenth ranked overall

Tony Taylor II from men’s team partook both shot put along weighted throw respectively settling seventh having registered results fourteen-eighty-eight & sixteen-oh-six distances measured each contest attended by Wolfpack athlete

The next event for NC State is scheduled January seventeenth through eighteenth Virginia Tech Invitational hosted Blacksburg Va
