The North Carolina Republican Party (NCGOP) has expressed its support for legal action initiated by Judge Jefferson Griffin in the North Carolina Court of Appeals. The petition seeks a writ of mandamus to compel the N.C. State Board of Elections (NCSBE) to issue a final decision on election protests related to the N.C. Supreme Court race by December 10.
NCGOP Chairman Jason Simmons stated, "Judge Griffin has led efforts to seek clarity and accountability while the State Board has been dragging its feet. The people of North Carolina deserve clarity and confidence in the electoral process." He emphasized that Judge Griffin's actions are crucial for ensuring that the State Board promptly resolves these protests and maintains election integrity.
The legal filing points out ongoing issues with over 60,000 ballots cast by voters who did not meet constitutional or statutory voting requirements in North Carolina. Although responsible for adjudicating these protests, the State Board has delayed its decisions, affecting public trust in the election outcome.
Additionally, there is concern over a conflict of interest involving one of the five board members, which remains unaddressed by the NCSBE.
