Jefferson Griffin, a Republican candidate for the North Carolina Supreme Court, has requested a second hand-eye recount following a statewide recount. Legal briefs from Griffin, Ashlee Adams, and Stacie McGinn have been submitted to the North Carolina State Board of Elections (NCSBE) as part of ongoing election integrity protests.
These protests challenge the validity of over 60,000 ballots across the state due to irregularities and discrepancies in their handling and counting. The North Carolina Republican Party has pledged resources to support these efforts.
Griffin and the NCGOP are pursuing the hand-eye recount to further examine ballots statewide, citing "the NCSBE's confusing and contradictory guidance sent to counties."
In a statement regarding the actions taken, Mercer commented, "It's important to remember that these actions are being taken because of the administration of elections: while Democrats and their allies in the media seem to want specific outcomes, our effort is about consistency, fairness, and transparency."
