William Neal Reynolds Coliseum | NC State Wolfpack
NC State's men's soccer team has advanced to the NCAA Sweet 16 for the first time since 1992. The team secured a 2-0 victory against Georgetown, marking their tenth win of the season. This is also the first time since 2018 that NC State has achieved ten wins in a season.
Under new head coach Marc Hubbard, NC State has made significant strides. Hubbard is one of only two coaches to lead their teams to the postseason national tournament in their first year at a school. However, while North Florida's coach was eliminated in the first round, Hubbard's team remains in contention.
The Wolfpack previously defeated Charlotte at home after double overtime and then upset fourth-seeded Georgetown on Sunday. Georgetown nearly scored early in the game but was denied by NC State's defense.
Junior midfielder Drew Lovelace scored his second goal of the season in the 27th minute with assistance from Isaac Heffess and Taig Healy. Despite Georgetown dominating possession after halftime, Logan Erb and Niko Markovic made crucial defensive plays for NC State.
In transition during the 66th minute, Donavan Phillip scored with an assist from Healy, securing another goal for himself in this tournament.
NC State will next face either Marshall or Furman as they continue their journey in the tournament.
