Attorney General Josh Stein is leading a coalition of Attorneys General from 29 states and the District of Columbia in a fight against patent trolls. The coalition includes representatives from Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Attorney General Stein also urged the Court to side with creators in a North Carolina case titled Napco v. Landmark. This case sought to protect the NC Abusive Patents Act—a law enacted in 2014 aimed at curbing abusive patent litigation practices. In 2021 the Court upheld this law.
