The deal concerning Alexander Nikishin's transition to the Carolina Hurricanes has been finalized. The 2020 third-round pick, considered one of the top players outside the NHL, is ready to join the team. General Manager Eric Tulsky elaborated on the process and expectations in an interview.

Tulsky explained, "We've known his contract was expiring, and we have been talking to his agent about what he would do at the end of the contract. He wanted to come here. We wanted to get him here. We needed the cooperation of SKA to release him from his contract."

The immediate task involves securing a U.S. visa for Nikishin, followed by a Canadian visa, allowing him to participate in road games. "We need to get a U.S. visa so he can come over. That is in process and should be done very soon," Tulsky shared.

Despite the geographical distance, the Hurricanes have closely monitored Nikishin's progress in the KHL. "Watching him, you can see the talent very clearly. He's a fantastic player who has been great for his team," noted Tulsky.

SKA's contribution to Nikishin's development has been significant. Tulsky commended their cooperation, stating, "SKA has helped him a lot. Roman Rotenberg is a strong coach who works hard to develop his players."

Regarding Nikishin's playing style, Tulsky praised his capabilities: "He sees the ice well and has a good shot. He's also 6-foot-4 and physical. He's one of the most ferocious hitters in that league."

As Nikishin transitions to the NHL, the pace of hockey presents a challenge. "It is a big jump from any other league to the NHL, and our team plays a very fast brand of hockey," Tulsky remarked. However, Tulsky remains optimistic about Nikishin's integration, emphasizing his potential and natural fit with the team.

Reflecting on the process, Tulsky expressed his enthusiasm, saying, "I would say I'm more excited than relieved. I'm looking forward to seeing Alexander on the ice."

The Hurricanes now anticipate how the inclusion of a capable defenseman like Nikishin will influence the lineup dynamics.
