The Carolina chapter of the Professional Hockey Writers' Association (PHWA) has nominated Jordan Staal, the forward for the Carolina Hurricanes, for the 2024-25 Bill Masterton Memorial Trophy. This acknowledgment from the local PHWA chapter highlights Staal's perseverance, sportsmanship, and dedication to ice hockey.

Staal, currently 36 years old, has had a significant season with the Hurricanes, scoring 12 goals and providing 21 assists in 72 games. He was one of the finalists for the same trophy in the 2017-18 season. In his career, Staal has accumulated 460 points over 894 games with the Hurricanes, ranking highly in both games played and points for the franchise.

Apart from his on-field accomplishments, Staal is noted for his leadership and humanitarian efforts, which have led to his nomination for the 2024-25 King Clancy Memorial Trophy. This award is given to a player who demonstrates leadership on and off the ice and contributes to their community.

Staal co-founded the Staal Family Foundation with his family members, aiming to support children battling cancer by providing unique experiences during Hurricanes games. He also participates in various other charitable endeavors, supporting organizations such as the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation, Ronald McDonald Charities, and the Canadian Cancer Society.

Nominated initially by his respective team for the King Clancy Memorial Trophy, Staal's commitment to philanthropy and leadership is further solidified by this recognition.
