Governor Stein announces new board appointments across various sectors

Governor Josh Stein has announced a series of appointments to various boards and commissions in North Carolina. These appointments include individuals with diverse backgrounds and expertise, reflecting the governor's commitment to effective governance.

Kenneth L. Goodman has been nominated as a commissioner representing employers on the North Carolina Industrial Commission. Goodman, a former state representative for the 66th district, currently serves on the commission where he reviews issues related to workers' compensation and other claims.

Greg Bryant has been appointed as Chair of the North Carolina Commission on Indian Affairs. An enrolled member of the Lumbee Tribe, Bryant is a health advocate and owner of Southeastern Integrated Care. He also runs a nonprofit organization that provides food assistance to students identified as homeless in Robeson County.

Michael James and Jason Weldon Compton have been appointed to the North Carolina 911 Board. James, from Lenoir County, serves as county manager and is involved with local advisory boards. Compton represents the National Emergency Number Association's North Carolina chapter and works in public safety IT for Wake County.

JoAnna LaRay Holloman will serve on the North Carolina Cemetery Commission as an owner or manager of cemetery locations along the state's east coast.

The Governor’s Crime Commission sees new appointees including Spencer B. Merriweather as the Governor’s designee, Charles Blackwood as Chair, and Matthew Scott as Vice-Chair. Merriweather is Mecklenburg County's district attorney; Blackwood is a former president of the North Carolina Sheriff’s Association; Scott serves as district attorney for Robeson County.

William H. Freeman has been named Chair of the State Ethics Commission. Freeman brings experience from his time on both district and superior court benches in North Carolina.

Dwayne Campbell and Satish S. Garimella join the Information Technology Strategy Board with backgrounds in business system technology and telecommunications.

Barbara Bleiweis will chair the North Carolina Soil and Water Conservation Commission alongside Dr. Porché L. Spence who joins as an at-large member focusing on environmental studies.

Lastly, Larry D. Hall has been appointed to the North Carolina Turnpike Authority as an at-large member bringing his legal expertise and experience from previous governmental roles.
