BOSTON - Seth Jarvis and Team Canada clinched the 4 Nations Face-Off Championship with a narrow 3-2 win over Team USA at TD Garden on Thursday. The victory came after an intense game that stretched into overtime, lasting 8:18 beyond the regular three periods.
The win allowed Canada to avenge their previous loss to the U.S. in Montreal last Saturday. Both teams exchanged goals throughout regulation, making for an exciting follow-up to their earlier encounter at Bell Centre.
Seth Jarvis, returning to Canada's lineup after missing the game against Finland, played for 12:45 in the championship match. He contributed one shot on goal, blocked another, and delivered three hits in his senior international debut. The Carolina Hurricanes tweeted support for Jarvis during his performance.
Jarvis had family and friends supporting him in Boston and ended the four-game series with one assist from Canada's opening match against Sweden. His past international experience includes representing Canada at the 2018 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and winning silver at the 2019 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.
Friends of Seth Jarvis discussed their journey from Winnipeg to Boston to watch the championship game on Sportsnet.
For Team USA's Jaccob Slavin, it was a disappointing end despite his strong defensive efforts throughout the tournament. Slavin logged significant ice time at 28:32 during the final game and effectively neutralized Canada's offensive threats, including blocking a shot from teammate Jarvis.
Slavin concluded with a team-high +3 rating in plus-minus statistics, trailing only behind Nathan MacKinnon of Canada and Joel Eriksson Ek of Sweden who both recorded +4 ratings. MacKinnon was named tournament MVP.
NHL acknowledged Slavin's performance during the tournament on social media.
