Today, a Black History Month reception was held where Governor Josh Stein was joined by the African American Heritage Commission and the Legislative Black Caucus to celebrate Black entrepreneurs.

Governor Stein emphasized the significant role of Black North Carolinians in shaping the state. "Black North Carolinians have shaped our state for as long as it has existed. Dr. Valerie Johnson, Chair of the NC African American Heritage Commission, shared her pride in celebrating alongside Governor Stein. “I am proud to celebrate Black History month alongside Governor Stein, and to honor the legacy and life stories of Black North Carolinians who have made, and continue to make, valuable contributions to our state’s history, heritage, economy, and culture,” she said. She commended the Governor's efforts in supporting Black entrepreneurs.

Senator Kandie Smith, Chair of the NC Legislative Black Caucus, highlighted North Carolina's business-friendly environment while acknowledging ongoing challenges.
