Governor Josh Stein and Lieutenant Governor Rachel Hunt visited Wake Technical Community College to announce February as Career and Technical Education Month. The event highlighted the state's commitment to enhancing workforce development through education and training.
During his visit, Governor Stein toured the auto tech labs at Wake Tech and engaged with school administrators, apprenticeship students, and business leaders to discuss workforce challenges in North Carolina. He emphasized the importance of career and technical education in building a robust economy. "We intend to make North Carolina the #1 state for apprenticeships in the nation. Investing in career and technical education is key to creating an economy in North Carolina that works for everyone," said Governor Stein. He further noted that collaboration with community colleges and corporate partners is crucial for shaping the future workforce.
Lieutenant Governor Hunt echoed these sentiments, stating, "Our community colleges are a wonderful source of opportunity and a great way to train our workforce for the future." She expressed enthusiasm about working with Governor Stein on advancing career and technical education across the state.
Wake Tech President Dr. Scott Ralls welcomed the governor's visit, noting that the college serves nearly 50,000 career technical students and partners with 150 corporate apprenticeship programs. "Wake Tech is home to some of the best workforce education facilities in the country," he said.
Governor Stein's initiative focuses on expanding job training opportunities by strengthening apprenticeships and investing in community college programs tailored to high-demand industries. This approach aims to provide North Carolinians with greater opportunities for success.
