Governor Josh Stein recently participated in a roundtable discussion with leaders from the North Carolina Department of Commerce and the Department of Military and Veterans Affairs. The focus was on strategies to support workers in North Carolina, particularly veterans transitioning into the workforce. As part of his visit, Governor Stein toured Wilmington's NCWorks site to learn about career resources available to job seekers.
North Carolina has consistently ranked highly for business growth, and Governor Stein emphasized the importance of ensuring that all areas of the state benefit from this economic progress. "I am impressed how NCWorks is connecting people to career opportunities, and I have directed the Departments of Commerce and Military and Veteran Affairs to continue their collaboration to ensure veterans can succeed. We have to do everything we can to support our veterans," he stated.
N.C. Department of Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley highlighted the role of New Hanover NCWorks Career Center in bridging workforce assets with employment opportunities. He remarked, "Transitioning veterans are great employees, and they can visit any NCWorks Career Center for help developing a new career and connecting with employers that recognize their skills and experience."
The state is home to over 600,000 veterans, all deserving meaningful employment as they transition into civilian life. Jocelyn Mitnaul Mallette, Secretary of the NC Department of Military and Veterans Affairs, affirmed their commitment: "At DMVA, we are committed to partnering with Governor Stein to explore meaningful ways to overcome the barriers our veterans face."
Tailored resources are available for North Carolina veterans encountering employment challenges.
