The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 5-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils on Saturday, scoring five times in the final 21 minutes and 30 seconds. Dmitry Orlov's goal late in the second period tied the game, providing momentum for the Hurricanes as they entered the third period.

The Canes initially fell behind early in the third period but quickly responded with a goal from Sebastian Aho. A major penalty assessed to New Jersey's Timo Meier gave Carolina an opportunity, leading to Jackson Blake scoring what would be the game-winning goal. Jack Roslovic added two more goals, including an empty-netter.

Goaltender Dustin Tokarski made 21 saves on 23 shots, marking his second win in three starts. With this victory, Rod Brind'Amour became the fastest coach in NHL history to reach 300 wins, surpassing Bruce Boudreau's record by eight games.

Ty Smith made his debut for the Hurricanes after several recalls and assignments. He played alongside Sean Walker and was praised by both Brind'Amour and Walker post-game. Brent Burns also marked his 200th game with Carolina, leading all defensemen on the team in assists and points since joining ahead of the 2022-23 season.

Seth Jarvis achieved his first career three-assist game during this match. The win was Carolina's 14th at Lenovo Center this season, tying them with Toronto and Vegas for most home victories by an NHL team this season.

Rod Brind'Amour commented on Shayne Gostisbehere's upper-body injury: "I'm hopeful it's nothing too serious." The team will not practice on Sunday but will return to practice on Monday before heading to Columbus for their next game against Columbus on December 31st.

Reflecting on his milestone victory, Brind'Amour said: "Coaching is interesting. You get way too much credit when your team wins and you get abused when (they don't). It's not quite how it really works out."

Jackson Blake expressed excitement about breaking his goal drought: "Any time you can provide something for your team, it's very exciting."

The Hurricanes' next home game is scheduled for January 4th against Minnesota.
