Lenovo Center | Carolina Hurricanes
Trailing by four early in the third period, the Carolina Hurricanes attempted a comeback with two quick goals but ultimately fell 5-2 to the Nashville Predators at Bridgestone Arena on Monday. Nashville established a two-goal lead through the first 40 minutes and added another pair of goals early in the third period. Despite outshooting Nashville 13-5 in the final frame, Carolina's efforts were insufficient as Jonathan Marchessault sealed the game with an empty-net goal for Nashville.
Dustin Tokarski, making his second appearance as a Hurricane, recorded 20 saves on 24 shots. The Hurricanes out-chanced Nashville significantly in the third period but struggled earlier in the game. Rod Brind'Amour noted postgame that "we didn't do anything for two periods" and emphasized the need for better starts.
Sebastian Aho extended his point streak to five games with a goal, bringing his season totals to 11 goals and 25 assists over 34 games. Jalen Chatfield marked his 200th game with Carolina during this match.
Reflecting on their performance, Brind'Amour stated: "We make a little comeback, but the game's over at that point. We have to be better early." Sebastian Aho added: "The third period was fine...but honestly, it wasn't a good enough first 40."
As they enter their holiday break, Brind'Amour summarized: "We started out good at the start of the season...We need everyone to contribute and we're just missing some pieces."
The Hurricanes will resume play after their break against New Jersey in back-to-back games starting Friday.
