NC State's women's basketball team, ranked No. 22/20, achieved a decisive victory over Louisville with a score of 72-42 in the Jimmy V Women's Classic and their ACC opener. This marks NC State's sixth consecutive win against Louisville. The team was led by Zamareya Jones, who scored 18 points off the bench, and Saniya Rivers, who recorded her second straight double-double.
The game saw NC State holding Louisville to just 42 points, marking a season-low for both teams in their encounters. The Pack outrebounded the Cardinals 53-40 and added significant contributions from their bench with 28 points.
Coach Wes Moore expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance: "Yeah, I didn't see it coming. We came out and played great and got the momentum... I'm real proud of our team." He highlighted the importance of defensive rebounds: "We have been talking about how a year ago, we averaged 31.5 defensive boards per game... today we had 38 defensive rebounds."
Zamareya Jones reflected on the win stating: "It meant a lot. Coach Moore was pushing us to fight [with us] in ACC play... we had to come out here and play our game." Saniya Rivers also emphasized the significance of this victory for building confidence after tough non-conference losses.
NC State will next face James Madison at home on December 19 as they conclude their non-conference schedule.
