Attorney General Josh Stein has announced settlements totaling $49.1 million with Heritage Pharmaceuticals and Apotex to resolve allegations of price manipulation in the generic prescription drug market. These settlements are part of ongoing multistate litigation efforts against pharmaceutical companies accused of inflating drug prices.

Stein stated, "North Carolinians should be able to turn to generic drugs as an affordable way to get the medications they need to get and stay well. I’m pleased that we’ve won back some money for people who overpaid for these prescriptions."

The settlements include a $10 million agreement with Heritage Pharmaceuticals, which will be filed in the United States District Court for the District of Connecticut. The $39.1 million settlement with Apotex awaits signatures from necessary states and territories before finalization.

These actions follow three multistate lawsuits filed by Attorney General Stein targeting alleged conspiracies within the pharmaceutical industry to raise generic drug prices. Evidence supporting these claims includes witness testimonies, extensive document databases, and phone records.

Attorney General Stein is collaborating with attorneys general from numerous states and territories in these legal actions aimed at promoting fair competition and compliance with antitrust laws.
