The NC State women's soccer team opened its 2024 season with a 0-0 draw against App State on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.

NC State (0-0-1) recorded all four shots on goal in the scoreless draw, three of which came from freshmen Antonella Mazziotto and Janet Okeke.

Mazziotto created space just outside the 18-yard box and fired a shot on goal in the 36th minute, forcing App State goalkeeper Sarah Wommack to make a leaping save. The Mountaineers (0-0-1) responded with the final two shots of the half.

In the 53rd minute, Annika Wohner flipped a ball into Okeke's path down the right wing for a breakaway opportunity. Okeke blasted a shot from just inside the box, prompting Wommack to make her third save of the night. Ten minutes later, Okeke directed an overhead kick toward goal for her second shot on net.

App State nearly secured a late winner in the 86th minute when Izzi Wood's direct free kick sailed just wide of the right post. Wood led the Mountaineers with three shots.

Wolfpack goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas registered her fourth career shutout in Thursday's scoreless draw. Both teams tied with eight shots apiece.

Eight NC State players made their debuts: Yuna Aoki, Mana Nakata, Abi Hugh, Alivia Kelly, Paige Tolentino, Okeke and Mazziotto. Aoki, Nakata, Hugh, Kelly and Okeke all made their first starts in a Wolfpack uniform.

NC State will host East Carolina on Sunday for Senior Night at Dail Soccer Stadium. Kickoff against the Pirates is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
