NC State quarterback Grayson McCall has been named to the 2024 Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award Preseason Watch List, as announced by the Davey O'Brien Foundation on Thursday. This marks the fourth preseason watch list recognition for McCall, who has also been included in the Maxwell Award, Walter Camp, and Comeback Player Award lists.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award is annually presented to the nation's top college quarterback and is recognized as the oldest and most prestigious award of its kind. Previous NC State quarterbacks such as Mike Glennon, Ryan Finley, and Devin Leary have also been named to this watch list.
This year's list was compiled by a subset of the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee based on past Division I career performances and expectations for the upcoming 2024 season. The Midseason Watch List will be narrowed down to the 35-player Davey O'Brien QB Class of 2024 on October 29. Fan voting via social media platforms will contribute bonus votes during various stages of selection.
Semifinalists from this class will be announced on November 12, with three finalists revealed two weeks later on November 26. The winner of the 2024 Davey O'Brien Award will be announced live on ESPN during The Home Depot College Football Awards on December 12. The award ceremony will take place at The Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas, on February 17, 2025.
