NC State quarterback Grayson McCall has been named a nominee for the 2024 College Football Comeback Player of the Year, according to an announcement made by the College Sports Communicators (CSC), in association with The Associated Press (AP) and the Fiesta Bowl on Tuesday.
The Comeback Player of the Year Award, established in 2018, honors college football student-athletes from all divisions who have overcome injury, illness, or other significant challenges.
Last season, McCall started the first seven games for Coastal Carolina but suffered a head injury in the fourth quarter against Arkansas State on October 21, 2023. Before his injury, McCall had thrown for 1,919 yards and 10 touchdowns, averaging 238.2 yards per game.
At the end of each season, a panel of college football writers, editors, and sports information directors selects three athletes as Comeback Player of the Year Award winners at the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl.
This nomination marks McCall's third appearance on a preseason watch list this summer. He is also listed on the Walter Camp Player of the Year Watch List and the Maxwell Award Watch List.
Wolfpack players on preseason award watch lists include:
- Maxwell Award: Grayson McCall
