April Programing at Chavis

Chavis april programs

Come and be a part of the exciting activities at the John Chavis Memorial Park!  We are offering everything from fitness classes, pickleball, a health fair, and much more!

Open Gym- Adult Basketball

Monday-Friday

11 a.m.- 12 p.m.

Open Gym- Youth Basketball

Friday    6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Sunday 2 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Open Gym- Volleyball

Tuesday and Thursday

6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 

MixxedFit Fitness

Ages: 16 and up

MixxedFit is a people-inspired dance fitness program that blends explosive dancing with Bootcamp toning. Work out to the latest hits and yesterday’s favorites. Give MixxedFit a try and join the movement!

Each Thursday from 6:45-7:45 p.m.

Cost: $5 a class

Chavis Cardio Line Dance

Ages: 16 and up

Chavis Cardio Line Dance is a creative and fun workout that fuses dance and aerobics to improve cardio fitness and tone the body.

Each Monday from 6:45-7:45pm

Cost: $10 a class

Chavis Line Dance

Ages: 16 and up

Chavis Line Dance is group dancing fitness and fun! Classes are offered weekly for beginners through advanced line dancers. Everyone is welcome!

Each Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

Cost: Free

Chavis Day at Play

Ages: All ages  

Come out for a day of food trucks and music as we celebrate the reopening of our splash pad.

Friday, April 1st from 4 p.m.-7 p.m.

The Hoppening Shell-ebration at John Chavis Memorial Park- Level 4  

Ages: All ages.

Color us EGG-cited to host our first in-person EGG-stra special EGG-perience. Grab your family and HOP on over to Chavis Park to participate in egg hunts and other fun activities. Young EGG-plorers will be broken up into three age groups (under 3, 4-6, 7-12 years of age) to “search” for colorful eggs, hidden throughout their predetermined section of the park. We look forward to seeing you at our EGG-straordinary hunt.

Saturday, April 9 from 11 a.m. -12 p.m.  

Learn to Play Pickleball Clinics

Ages: 50 and up

Join us at John Chavis Community Center to learn how to play pickleball!  Weekly “Learn to Play” clinics for beginners ages 50 and over are instructed by local pickleball volunteers to help bring new players to the sport.  Each session will involve skill drills, rules overviews, and short gameplay sessions to put your skills to the test!  Limited equipment is available to borrow during each session.  $10 for 8 weeks.

Each Wednesday from 11 a.m. -2 p. m.  

 

Toddler Story Time

Ages: 3-5.

Join us for a story followed by an arts and crafts activity!

Wednesday, April 20 from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m.  

 

Tot-Time at Chavis

Ages: 2-5.

Toddlers, this one is for you! Parents bring your toddlers into our gym to play games while interacting with other toddlers.

Every Wednesday from 12:30 pm-1:30 pm 

Trivia Night

Ages: All

Bring your family to JCMP for a cartoon-themed trivia night and light refreshments!

Tuesday, April 19 from 6:30 p.m.-8 p.m. 

Senior Movie and Social

Ages: 55 and better  

Description: Seniors this one is for you! JCMP is bringing the movie theatre to you so grab your snacks, a seat, and enjoy. Snacks will be provided.  

Thursday, April 21 from 11 a.m. -12:30 p.m. 

Chess  

Ages: All ages

Whether you want to learn or know how to play. Join us in playing chess and listening to light music while enjoying the beautiful view of downtown.  

Every Saturday 10am-11:00am  

Happy Day and Night- Level 2  

Ages: 18 and up.

Activities! Activities! Activities! Come room hop with us and enjoy a new activity in each of our rooms.

Tuesday, April 26 from 6pm-830pm

Health and Wellness Event

Join us at John Chavis Memorial Park for a day of fun, health, and wellness.  The activities of the day will include line dancing, a fun run, yoga, and Pilates.  We will also have professional presentations that will provide mental and physical resources.  Healthy food trucks will be onsite for meal purchases.  At 2 pm Chavis will transform to an old school day party on the central plaza!
