Makingcar

City of Durham recently issued the following announcement.

Emerging local artists hoping to take their work from personal to public should apply now for Momentum 360: Making Your Own Career in Public Art.

This latest iteration of the Momentum 360 program is a collaboration between the City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce Development and Triangle Artworks, and is designed to provide artists with the business and planning skills they need to compete in the world of public art.

Momentum 360 is now accepting applications for its Public Art cohort. During the free six-week program, participants will learn to develop professional support materials such as CVs and letters of interest; financial skills including budgeting and cost evaluations; best practices and common mistakes; and even more behind-the-scenes insights from public art professionals.

Momentum 360: Making Your Own Career in Public Art will be held from January 12 – February 16 via six virtual classes, each lasting two hours. The course will be held in a hybrid style with optional in-person field experiences also available.

Durham-based artist David Wilson will be the instructor for the program. Wilson has worked successfully with public-sector and private-sector clients, and brings decades of experience and his love of mentorship to this program. He will be assisted in this course by Triangle ArtWorks ArtSwell Education Director and Arts Entrepreneurship Educator Cynthia Deis.

For more information and to access the application, visit the Momentum 360: Making Your Own Career in Public Art webpage. Applications must be submitted by December 15, 2021. Interested artists may also contact Deis by email for more information.
