Brenda Gibson received the A.E. Finley Distinguished Service Award from the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce during its annual meeting held virtually due to the pandemic, an event used to highlight its accomplishment.

The Raleigh Chamber recruited 77 new and expanding companies, leading to more than 5,900 jobs created in Wake County with an investment of $406 million, the chamber said in a release. The group also launched its own recovery task force in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the chamber reported in a blog.

Bandwidth plans to bring 1,100 jobs to Raleigh with its global headquarters, the chamber said in its release. Another 148 jobs will be added with Envestnet’s expanded presence in Wake County. South Korea’s Hansae picked Garner for a PPE manufacturing facility. And Microsoft said it would create 500 new jobs in Morrisville.

More than 800 people attended 205 events, including 120 virtual events, hosted by the chamber, meeting new customers and new skills.

The We Connect and Hispanic and Black Business Momentum programs helped 300 small business owners make new contacts, the chamber reported.

To determine business needs and work on meeting them, the chamber completed a 15-county regional skills analysis focusing on talent and workforce development.
