NORTH CAROLINA DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE: Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey to present ceremonial grant checks to Surry, Yadkin County fire departments during Monday visit

North Carolina Department of Insurance issued the following announcement on Sept. 25.

North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey’s plans to visit Surry and Yadkin counties on Monday, Sept. 28, and deliver ceremonial grant checks to fire stations in both counties.

Thirteen volunteer fire departments in Surry County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $175,000. Five volunteer fire departments in Yadkin County are receiving matching grants totaling more than $136,000.

Statewide in 2020, matching grants are being awarded to 504 volunteer fire departments totaling more than $8.5 million. The matching grant program, which started in 1987, helps volunteer fire departments purchase needed equipment to protect firefighters’ safety, fight fires and help rescue people in their communities.

While visiting fire stations, Commissioner Causey will also discuss efforts to improve volunteer recruitment and retention and listen to firefighters’ concerns.
