North Carolina's government asked residents to take precautions when donating to food banks and with the help of a food bank powering software and a shared story from the food pantry, the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina has seen a spike in donations.
After the organization shared a message of the need for donations during the COVID-19 pandemic, donations soared even higher, according to a Blackbaud news release.
The number of donations in March for the food bank increased 1,075%, according to a press release from Blackbaud. Samantha Wright, director of development operation and analytics for the food bank, said the huge increase in donations shows the trust of the North Carolina communities it serves.
"Really, it's just so humbling and moving," she told Blackbaud. "They're listening to us, and they're responding."
The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina is able to keep up with all of its donations due to Blackbaud, a cloud software company that is powering food banks across the nation, according to Blackbaud. Blackbaud has managed the influx in donations, which allows food banks to transform the donations into meals at a faster pace, according to the statement. .
