Wake County Public Libraries is launching its 2025 Summer Reading Program, “Color Our World,” with events planned for the weekend across various library locations. The program, which begins on Saturday and runs until August 23, is open to participants of all ages. It encourages reading through rewards and activities.
Susan Evans, chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, emphasized the benefits of summer reading. “Reading during the summer keeps minds active and brings families together,” she said. Evans urged everyone to participate in activities such as reading aloud with children or listening to audiobooks.
The libraries will host kickoff events on May 31 and June 1 featuring magic shows, science demonstrations, puppet shows, and performances. Each library visit also provides a chance to enter a raffle for prizes.
Additionally, visitors can collect bookmarks designed by local readers. Over 1,000 entries were submitted for the bookmark contest, showcasing significant creativity.
For more information about participation and events, individuals are encouraged to visit any of the county’s 23 library locations or access details online at wake.gov/Summer-Reading.
