Wake County officials announced on Mar. 8 that they will hold a community meeting on March 10 to discuss the development of the Haleys Branch Trails, a new network of hiking and biking trails near Lake Crabtree County Park.
The project aims to create expanded outdoor recreation opportunities for residents by developing trails across approximately 400 acres. The area includes the former 286 East property, which covers 151 acres, as well as about 250 acres of land leased from William B. Umstead State Park.
Safiyah Jackson, vice chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners, said, “We know how important high quality recreation opportunities, especially biking and hiking, are to our community. This is a great chance for residents to get involved and help shape what these new trails will become.”
The upcoming meeting invites bikers, hikers, and nature enthusiasts to review a concept plan and provide feedback. Staff from Wake County and consultants from CLH design, p.a., along with International Mountain Biking Association Trail Solutions, will be available to answer questions during the event.
After gathering input at the meeting and conducting a site review, staff and consultants will develop a detailed plan for the trail system. This plan will be presented at a future public meeting and made available online for further community review.
