Wake County offices will observe Independence Day on Friday, July 4, by closing their doors. The election season for 2025 is set to commence on Monday, July 7, as county boards across the state begin accepting candidate filings for municipal offices. Wake County will conduct elections in 13 municipalities on November 4.
Candidates eligible to file are those residing in Angier, Apex, Cary, Durham, Fuquay-Varina, Garner, Holly Springs, Knightdale, Morrisville, Rolesville, Wake Forest, Wendell and Zebulon within Wake County. Those living in neighboring counties like Durham or Harnett must file at their respective county board of elections office.
“Candidate filing is the first official step in preparing for the election,” said Olivia McCall, Director of Elections for Wake County. “Our team is ensuring everything is in place for the start of filing.”
Business hours for Wake County are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:15 p.m., Monday through Friday. The deadline to file candidacy notices is noon on Friday, July 18. A list of candidates will be updated daily during the filing period at wake.gov/upcomingelection.
Candidates must present themselves in person with necessary documents at the appropriate location or complete paperwork with a notary and send it via courier service within the statutory period.
Information regarding fees and qualifications can be found on the Board’s website. Candidates should bring photo ID and check for fees when filing at the Operations Center; cash up to $50 is also accepted.
