Wake County, in collaboration with the Duke Energy Foundation, is taking steps to help residents prepare for emergencies. The Duke Energy Foundation has provided a HERO grant to Wake County Emergency Management to supply emergency kits to those in need.
“Emergency preparedness starts at the individual level,” stated Don Mial, Vice Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. He emphasized the importance of access to resources during crises and expressed gratitude towards the Duke Energy Foundation for their support in promoting equity and safety.
The initiative will focus on distributing emergency kits through partnerships with community organizations. These efforts aim to reach vulnerable groups such as seniors, low-income families, and people with disabilities.
Autumn Miller from Wake County Emergency Management highlighted the benefits of having an emergency kit ready: “Having an emergency kit on hand will give you peace of mind when severe weather approaches.” She noted that this allows residents to spend crucial time preparing their homes instead of shopping for supplies.
Details about the distribution of these free kits will be announced soon. For those interested in assembling their own kits, resources are available at readywake.com.
Over the past five years, Duke Energy Foundation has contributed over $1.8 million in grants to more than 100 local emergency response organizations across North Carolina, enhancing storm preparedness initiatives.
