Wake County has introduced a new tool designed to assist residents, local leaders, and housing advocates in understanding the area’s housing landscape. The Housing Data Dashboard is now available and provides insights into key trends such as population growth, affordability, supply, and demand.
“This tool will help us all make informed decisions about how we grow and where we invest,” said Chair Susan Evans with the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “The more we understand the full picture, the more effectively we can address housing challenges and create opportunity for all.”
The release of this dashboard comes at a significant time for Wake County. The population has increased by nearly 10 percent over the past decade. Last year alone saw an influx of over 41,000 people from other regions. Additionally, median rent has surged by more than 26 percent since 2018, leading to increased financial pressure on renters. Approximately 61,000 renter households are considered cost-burdened as they spend over 30 percent of their income on housing.
The dashboard aims to promote coordinated responses to pressing housing issues by making data accessible to everyone. Users can explore interactive charts and maps, analyze trends related to demographics and affordability, and generate reports specific to their communities.
Wake County collaborated with HR&A Advisors Inc. in developing this platform. Their expertise contributed to creating a resource that offers both comprehensive analytical capabilities for internal staff and practical insights for public use.
