Wake County is set to hold a final community meeting on the Eastern Wake Area Plan, giving residents another chance to contribute their thoughts on the future growth and development of this region. The interactive, in-person meeting will take place from 4:30–6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the Eastern Regional Center in Zebulon.
The plan covers a 46,000-acre section of northeastern Wake County where approximately 16,000 people reside. This area is surrounded by Franklin, Johnston, and Nash counties. Once finalized, the plan aims to guide the future built environment including homes, buildings, roads, open spaces, farms, and infrastructure.
“This is another great way for residents interested in the Eastern Wake area to play an active role in the development of this plan,” stated Don Mial, vice chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners. “In order for the plan to successfully reflect the needs, values and vision of the people who live and work there, we need to hear from as many people as possible.”
This initiative is part of PLANWake’s comprehensive planning efforts which have already studied five out of seven areas including Lower Swift Creek, Middle Creek, Lower Neuse and Western Wake areas.
Residents have had several opportunities to engage with planners through virtual meetings held in March and an earlier in-person session in April. Feedback was also collected via an online interactive map.
Those unable to attend can still participate by filling out a community survey or contacting planning staff directly at areaplan@wake.gov or 919-856-6310 (option 8).
