Starting July 1, 2025, the towns of Apex, Holly Springs, Knightdale, and Rolesville in Wake County will cease accepting in-person property tax payments. Residents who have been paying taxes at these locations will need to switch to alternative methods such as online payment, mail, or designated in-person sites elsewhere in the county.

Wake County Tax Administrator Marcus Kinrade explained the decision: “We’ve taken a closer look at how residents prefer to pay their property taxes. With a growing number of people using online and digital options, it makes sense to realign our payment options accordingly.”

The change is part of a broader trend reflecting residents’ evolving preferences. Over the past decade, there has been a 60% decline in in-person payments at these locations.

Residents can choose from several convenient payment methods. For further information or assistance, they can visit wake.gov/tax or call 919-856-5400.
