Wake County Public Libraries and Wake County Parks, Recreation and Open Space are marking Pride Month with a series of free events that highlight community, diversity, and inclusion.
“We want our parks and libraries to be places where everyone feels welcome and supported,” stated Wake County Commissioner Vickie Adamson. “These Pride Month programs are a chance to bring people together in celebration and connection with each other and the community.”
The events include various activities throughout June, such as book clubs, nature walks, and outdoor programs designed for all ages.
One featured event is the Wake Forest Pride Book Club on June 9 at the Wake Forest Community Library. Participants will discuss “This is How You Lose the Time War” by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone.
On June 11, a virtual program titled “Pauli Murray: Identity and Influence” will explore the life of Pauli Murray, focusing on their identity as a queer, gender non-conforming person and their contributions to social justice.
Forest Bathing for Renewal & Resilience is scheduled for June 22 at East Regional Library. This session involves guided meditation followed by a sensory stroll along a forested path. It is led by a certified forest therapy guide and somatic coach.
Additional resources have been curated by librarians to support education on identity, equality, and social justice. These can be accessed at guides.wake.gov/pride.
Other events include Out in Nature on June 7 at Historic Oak View County Park, Pride Paddle on June 25 at Robertson Millpond Preserve, and Rainbow Agriculture: Taking Pride in Farming on June 27 at Beech Bluff County Park.
