Bruce Matthews born August 8, 1961, in Raleigh, NC

Bruce Matthews was born August 8, 1961, in Raleigh, North Carolina. He played college football at the University of Southern California. In 1983, he was drafted by the Houston Oilers. He played 19 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Oilers and Tennessee Titans. Matthews played every offensive line position during his career. He was selected to 14 Pro Bowls and earned 10 All-Pro honors. His number 74 was retired by the Titans. Matthews was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2007. After retiring, he worked as an assistant coach for the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans. He is part of a family with multiple NFL players. His connection to Raleigh is as his birthplace and hometown.
