The Carolina Hurricanes secured a 5-2 win against the New Jersey Devils, led by Andrei Svechnikov’s hat trick. The Hurricanes started strong with Svechnikov scoring just 52 seconds into Game 4, marking the fourth-fastest goal in the franchise’s playoff history. The team added another goal in the first period through Jaccob Slavin, who capitalized on a turnover to make it 2-0.
“Svechnikov’s second goal of the afternoon gave his team a three-goal advantage,” however, the Devils responded quickly, making the game more competitive. Carolina’s Frederik Andersen was forced out of the game after a collision with Timo Meier, which led to Pyotr Kochetkov stepping in. Despite conceding a goal shortly after, Kochetkov made 14 saves, following Andersen’s six.
In the final period, Brent Burns scored to extend the lead before Svechnikov completed his hat trick with an empty-net goal. Svechnikov’s three goals tied him for the league lead in goals during the 2025 playoffs, and his performance drew praise from teammates and coaches. Rod Brind’Amour emphasized the importance of key players stepping up in the postseason, while Jaccob Slavin highlighted Svechnikov’s impact on the team.
The Hurricanes were successful on the power play for the third time in the series and maintained a perfect penalty kill. Sebastian Aho and Jackson Blake also contributed with multiple points, and Mark Jankowski made his playoff debut for the Hurricanes.
Reflecting on the game’s turning points, Jordan Staal and Pyotr Kochetkov commented on the team’s resilience. Despite losing their starting goaltender, Staal remained confident in Kochetkov’s capabilities. As the Hurricanes look forward to Game 5, Staal expressed excitement about the opportunity to advance, acknowledging the challenge that lies ahead.
Svechnikov and Brind’Amour addressed the media, noting the significance of the team’s performance and Svechnikov’s leadership on the ice. The Hurricanes practice in Raleigh on Monday before their next game on Tuesday, offering fans another chance to experience playoff excitement.
