Governor Josh Stein visited Eastern Elementary School in Greenville, Pitt County, during the school's "Wellness Week," an initiative focused on fostering healthy habits among students. During his visit, Governor Stein interacted with students, faculty, and parents to gain insight into the school's free meal and STEM programs.

"Visiting Eastern Elementary School today reaffirmed what I know to be true: our public schools are the launching pad of our state’s future,” stated Governor Josh Stein. He emphasized the importance of investing in education to ensure all children have the resources necessary for success. "We must invest in our schools so that our children are set up for success, no matter their hometown. I look forward to working with the legislature to ensure that every child has the resources they need to thrive in the classroom and beyond."

Governor Stein's tour included a visit to a STEM classroom where he listened to students discuss their experiences. He also stopped by the cafeteria to learn from administrators about how free school meals have improved student focus and learning outcomes.

Accompanied by local leaders, Governor Stein outlined his education policy priorities which include increasing teacher salaries, addressing student hunger, and allocating more resources for school nurses, counselors, and social workers.
